Rethe¸ workers paradise
When the world needed a leader they found me and I answered the call¸ now let the people take their rightful place as masters of their own destiny and beneficiaries of their labours"
Curtain Hamsteap- President of Rethe¸ from his inaugural address.
Terrain
Rethe is a planet crisscrossed with deep canyons interspersed with dust seas and rugged plateaus. At some point the planet was wracked by geologic turmoil leading to the gigantic canyon systems¸ the largest which run for thousands of kilometres. Massive dust storms appear at certain times of the year making travel on the surface treacherous and at times cutting off orbital travel as well. Terrain on Rethe can be loosly divided into canyon¸ dust sea¸ plateau¸ dune and pillar.
Canyons
Canyons on Rethe were formed by tectonic activity and some liquid flow in the distant past. This has left canyons that run for thousands of kilometres and are up to a kilometre in depth as well. The Retheians built their habitats by roofing the canyon floors which were for the most part smooth and relatively wide. The canyon floors also act as the highways byways with travel by pressurised all terrain vehicles and the planets monorail system. During the planets seasonal storm season¸ travel is confined to the canyon floors.
Pillar
The Pillar regions are massive forests of stone monoliths that rise out of the dunes at certain parts of the planet. The pillars can stretch up to four hundred meters high and form their own distinct ecosystem. Travelling amongst the pillars is difficult but not impossible and the regions have become tourist attractions of sorts¸ there are even some permanent settlements although these are mainly religious cults and alternative life-stylers.
Dust Sea
The dust seas are deep deposits of fine dust that can almost act as a liquid at times¸ there are waves and storms like any sea but it is made up of dust. The giant seasonal storms lift vast clouds of dust from the oceans and move it around the planet so seas change size and shape often. the density of the material in the seas is enough to float boat like vehicles and some explorers have sailed across these oceans however there have been sightings and rumours of large life forms living in the dust.
Plateau
The plateaus are high enough for the atmosphere to be virtually nonexistent. They are relatively flat terrain and can be traversed with care¸ avoiding the many crevasses that dot their surface. It is on the central plateau that a large community Llellewyloly have settled. These creatures thrive in the low gravity and almost non-existent atmosphere¸ humans however¸ very rarely travel through the plateaus and they are virtually unknown.
Dune
There are several large areas of dune sea with tall rolling dunes and like the plateaus these are seldom visited except for the occasional prospector looking for rare mineral deposits which can be accessed in the bowls between dunes. There have been artefacts turn up indicating that there was a prehuman civilisation on Rethe possibly millions of years ago.
Climate
The atmosphere on Rethe is extremely thin and unbreathable for humans without aid any operations outside of the habitats need to be done using a light heated air tight suit and helmet. Most Rethians use a scrubber rebreather system with a double air tank giving around twenty-four hours of operation depending on how active they are. The daytime temperature in summertime at the equator can get as high as 19 degrees Celsius but it drops off quickly as you move north or south and at nighttime it can drop fifty degrees¸ depending on the suit model it can be difficult to survive the night in the open.
The massive storms are a feature of the summer months as the thin atmosphere starts to warm up. These can severely disrupt operations on the surface an
