Feri¸ a world descending into chaos.
Feri is a rich world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population of 290 million¸ which makes it too urbanized to make an agricultural world. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Regina Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Feri¸ as a member world of the Third Imperium¸ holds the estate of an Imperial knight¸ a baronet¸ and the fiefdoms of a baron¸ and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base¸ capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.
Feri is a balkanized world with ten nations currently split into pro Imperial and anti-Imperial factions with one neutral.
GravityFeri is a small but dense world but can only manage gravity half that of earths. The locals have managed that by genetic engineering but over the years have tended to be tall and slim. Feri natives can function in higher gravity but will tire easily until their bodies acclimate. There are treatments to accelerate this process and any Ferian travelling off world will begin these in the week before they leave. Off worlders will find their strength and endurance increased but their dexterity will suffer.
Plant life tends to grow tall and fast¸ the transplanted flora can grow to massive proportions. The only life on the land are insects and like the plants¸ these are big some as big as terrestrial birds.
The lighter gravity has been an advantage for air transport dirigible or airships being popular for cargo transport and grab transport for local use can be larger and quicker than on world with higher gravity
ClimateFeri has an almost ideal climate for humans¸ the atmosphere is slightly denser than earth¸ but it requires no artificial assistance and most people will acclimatise quickly. Feri has a long orbit around its sun taking thirty-two standard years meaning seasons are extremely gradual and stable with eight-year spring¸ summer¸ autumn and winter. The average temperature at the equator varies by only four degrees between winter and summer.
In the summer years vast storms race across the equatorial regions of the planet dumping huge amounts of rain by the wintertime these have moved north and south towards the poles bringing snow to the colder regions.
TerrainThe planet is unremarkable and was extensively terraformed in the early days of colonization¸ seeded with a variety of plant and animal life giving the colonists an eclectic mix of flora and fauna¸ like a lot of terraformed planets hardy eucalypts and pines make up the bulk of the forests with large areas temperate prairies and colder tundra. Alpine areas tend to be barren and rocky.
Unlike the land¸ Feris oceans team with native life¸ none of which is edible to humans and a lot of it is big and dangerous. Aquaculture has been attempted in the past¸ but most projects ended up with the local sea life taking over again. The oceans for the most part are relatively calm and the lack of a moon means no tidal activity to speak of.
PopulationThe original colonists came from a mixture of worlds including Earth and Vland with the first colonists arriving around 380 via Regina. Over the next three hundred years there were several waves of settlers. Each group tended to claim its own part of the planet leading to the balkanized world that is Feri today. Over the hundreds of years of settlement¸ unlike many other worlds¸ Feri did not unite under one government and the abundant resources enabled each distinct society to flourish. The competition between countries has flared up into conflict in the past but mostly it has helped development rather than hindered it¸ it is only recently with the push by some countries to leave the Imperium that open war
