Pico: Hogwild Playtest
![]() |
Greetings¸ those-who-would-be-tiny-bugs¸
And welcome to the first playtest of PICO! I'm Felix Isaacs¸ creator of The Wildsea and
Wild Words Engine and¸ until now¸ not a whole lot else. But that changes today!
What you have in your hands or¸ more likely¸ on a screen in front of you¸ is the first
playable version of PICO - a game about making tiny bugs and exploring a big weird
world with them.
It's a game of friendship and mystery¸ of travel and creation. Of riding on the backs of
divine cats and palling around with squirrel-kings¸ of solving scorpion problems and
scrapping with mercenary mice.
... Or¸ at least¸ it will be soon.
This playtest focuses on the moment to moment gameplay of scenes and montages¸
giving you a suite of pre-gen characters to choose from and a single¸ large location to
explore: the Hogwild.
Throughout this playtest document you'll find some words written in bolded bronze-
blue (the colour of this text box¸ in fact). These are indicators that a feature is coming
soon¸ but is not included in this particular playtest. For a rough idea of just how much
more is waiting for you within the final published experience¸ check out those chapter
numbers on the opposite page!
In fact¸ the full game of PICO will have...
- A character creation system for making and advancing your own unique bugs¸
piece by piece
- A new mode of adventuring familiar to anyone that's played The Wildsea (journeys)¸
and grand beasts to travel upon the back of (picotitans)
- Mechanics for building your own little mobile towns on the back of said picotitans¸
and for growing them over time
- A whole host of additional hazards and locations to flesh out the world of the post-mysteriocalypse.
... And more art¸ too - that's kind of a given.
But for now¸ I really hope you enjoy your experience with the playtest. It should be
enough to run a couple of one-shots¸ even a little campaign if the mood takes you. If
you really like it¸ there's a kickstarter pre-launch link to follow RIGHT HERE!
So what are you waiting for? Grab a bug (not literally) and dive in!
Good luck¸ tiny adventurers - you'll need it.
