Mechs V Monsters
The proximity senses on your mech blare. You pivot a high beam on the blip. A maelstrom of flesh and eyes and chitinous clacking boil from the sump pit. Shock gives way to action. Cost cutting and injuries mean you're the only mech pilot on this shift - on the dark side of Mars in Silo 101 - so this is your problem. You don't have time to consider if rumours about genetic manipulation in the meat-processing labs are true; the tentacled thing is almost upon you.
You hope the welding lasers on your trusty construction mech can hold the monster until the next shift starts.
This is an open beta version of a mech battle game - with only two pages of rules!
Humanity in 2211 has spread through the solar system. Leaving wasteland Earth to its death throes¸ the powerful live in terrariums on the moons of Saturn. To provide for their lifestyles and industrial ventures¸ silos are scattered throughout the sun's orbit¸ offering food¸ materials and manpower to various corporate ventures. Silo workers sign up for a decade-long contract to leave the violence and poverty of Earth for a space station. Here they toil under the stars until the contract is over¸ so they can begin a new life near the beautiful rings of Saturn.
The Mechatronic Construction Chassis¸ 'mech' for short¸ has enabled great feats of engineering to be accomplished beyond Earth's orbit. These great machines¸ piloted by humans protected from the environments of space¸ build the habitats and ecosystems needed to ensure humanity survives its exodus from Earth. The key to their success are replaceable and easy-to-rig parts¸ ensuring scrap can be repurposed into a new tool or modification without need for an off-world engineer to get involved.
Mechs V Monsters is set on Mars¸ a silo planet supplying the colonies of Saturn with food. Its proximity to Earth has it well-placed to harvest raw organic matter needed for food-processing¸ puts it beyond Earth's troubles¸ and its exposure to the harsh vacuum of space means experiments can be carried out before sending deliveries on their Saturnine journies.
All is not well. Hideous monstrosities are bubbling up from the depths of the hab-domes and packing plants. Firepower used against the creatures has caused widespread collateral damage as the beasts devoured all in their path and grew to tremendous size. It wasn't until a mech pilot in Silo 101 modified their machine and took one down through brute force that a solid tactic has been found to beat back the beasts.
Mech pilots now ensure their machines are capable of battling a mutated creature of teeth and tentacles with modifications gathered from construction and mining tools. However¸ as the creatures grow bigger and bolder¸ many mech pilot's hope to just survive long enough to finish their contract and get off-world.
