Navigator RPG
Navigator RPG Galaxy Spanning High Adventure
Build for the Science Fiction loving Game Master that wants to build their own universes.
Navigator RPG is a fully 'play it now' game. Pick it up¸ make a character and start playing¸ but it is more than that. Navigator RPG is built to be played in the Old School style. The GM listening to the players approaches and calling for skill tests when needed but placing equal¸ or more¸ value on role-played solutions.
Character CreationCharacters follow a life path model. You chose your species¸ a culture¸ a profession and then spend a pool of points on skills to customise your character to the way you want them to be.
For the world build GM¸ the game has common broad species¸ but the rules for how to create species so they are all balanced in game-play terms. There are common broad-stroke cultures but also the rules for how they are made¸ so you drill down to any level of detail you like in making your own cultures. The same is true for building professions and even adding skills to the game.
The game as written uses broad descriptions to keep the number of options facing a new player small. There are only a few professions¸ a few species and so on. This gives you are fairly rules light (Rules medium?) game you can just pick up and play.
It also gives you the potential to refine and add to the game as much detail as you could possibly want.
Game MasteryThe origins of this game are a blend of OSR 'original game' and a 1980s classic 'Rolemaster' by Iron Crown Enterprises. Everything is new. Where those games were criticised for excessive rules and charts¸ this version is fully 21st century¸ it has stripped out as many tables as you can while still keeping those iconic critical tables and wound descriptive text.
OriginsThis game uses many of the ideas from White Star White Box by Barrel Rider Games but has been entirely rewritten. What that means is that everything you need is here to play a Star Knight with there light swords and psi-powers. But it is also just as well equipped to play a Space Marine against a planet of hostile Insectus.
Free as in Speech and Free as in BeerThis game is covered by the OGL¸ Open Game License. This means that you are welcome to create anything you like for the Navigator RPG universe¸ create it¸ publish it and sell it.
The game is also a Pay What You Want title for its PDF. You can download it and play it without paying a cent.
There are also high-quality softcover and hardback books if you want the books at your table.
This is Not a Beginner GameYou will not find a "What is an RPG?" or "How to Role Play" chapter in this book. It is assumed you know how to role-play and what an RPG is. This is not an ideal game for people new to the hobby.
Solo is a perfect way to learn a new game¸ test your first adventures and going beyond just making characters when you are first getting to know the rules.
