The rain had intensified and the road had become dangerous. We had to stop at one of those roadside diners. The waitress looked at us strangely. Maybe she didn't like city people¸ maybe she was used to serving locals.
While Carver ordered coffee¸ I stepped away from the counter and forgot all about it¸ slipping a coin into the jukebox that lit up the back of the room.
Several variations as usual :
