Eclipse Phase
It is set 10 years after the fall of humanity (""The Fall"") - when the Earth and colonies were devasted by advanced artifical intelligences (TITANs) that went out of control and then disappeared along with millions of humans whose minds were forcibly uploaded. Five wormhole gateways to other systems were found following the Fall¸ and contact has been made with aliens known as the Factors. It uses a percentile skill-based system¸ with success determined by rolling 1d100 under skill + modifiers¸ with doubles (11¸ 22¸ etc.) being critical. Since characters may switch bodies¸ stats are distinguished between ego (self) and morph (current body). Attributes are Initiative¸ Speed¸ Durability¸ Wound Threshold¸ Lucidity¸ Trauma Threshold¸ Moxie¸ and Damage Bonus. - A description from https://darkshire.net/jhkim/rpg/encyclopedia/ with kind permission of John H. Kim Humanity is enhanced and improved¸ but also battered and bitterly divided. Technology allows the re-shaping of bodies and minds¸ but also creates opportunities for oppression and puts the capability for mass destruction in the hands of everyone. And other threats lurk in the devastated habitats of the Fall¸ dangers both familiar and alien. In this harsh setting¸ the players participate in a cross-faction conspiracy called Firewall that seeks to protect transhumanity from threats both internal and external. Along the way¸ they may find themselves hunting for prized technology in a gutted habitat falling from orbit¸ risking the hellish landscapes of a ruined earth¸ or following the trail of a terrorist through militarized stations and isolationist habitats. Characters may even find themselves stepping through a Pandora Gate¸ a wormhole to distant stars and the alien secrets beyond. What's New in EP2? We focused on improving and simplifying the existing Eclipse Phase system¸ not re-inventing the wheel. Changes include: Most first-edition source material is compatible with EP2: Sourcebooks such as Sunward¸ Rimward¸ Gatecrashing¸ Panopticon¸ Firewall¸ Zone Stalkers¸ Argonauts¸ and The Stars our Destination are 95% compatible. Some of the morphs¸ gear¸ and other rules provided in their Game Information sections will be outdated¸ but are easily convertible. We call these EP1-but-highly-compatible books the SolArchive.
