Adventure Location 5: The Roadside Temple
Those that worship the sun god often place moveable crystals¸ mirrors and reflectors atop their temples. This serves many purposes. It can form a beacon of light to travellers in the night¸ much like a lighthouse for lost ships. It can bring light down into the temple itself for times of prayer and sermon. However¸ it's greatest function is to cast the last sunlight on the graves of the dead as they are interred. Therefore in the grounds of a temple of the sun god¸ all graves are aligned so this light atop it may shine on their faces. Many such temples are placed along the major roads¸ so that travellers and local communities have common places to gather¸ share the words of scripture and lay their dead to rest. Every now and then as a town fails or villages are ravaged these temples are left as isolated monuments to the people that came before. Sometimes something even worse befalls one of these sacred sites. Even savages and barbarians respect the sanctity of the temple grounds¸ but not all foes are of the natural world. The Roadside Temple has been corrupted at it's core and sits awaiting those brave¸ or foolish¸ enough to enter. This open source adventure location is a standalone scenario that is designed to fit into an existing campaign¸ or be the jumping off point for one. As an open source fantasy location¸ the Roadside Temple is a useful site for many roleplaying games¸ including: Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay¸ Zweihander RPG and of course¸ Dungeons & Dragons!
