REDS ARE BETTER DEAD: The First Bolshevik Offensive¸ Jan. 1919



The first Bolshevik offensive against the Allies (Britain and the US) had been a long time coming. Since their arrival at Archangel in 1918¸ the 20¸000+ allied troops set up their camps before advancing into the deep. As usual¸ Britain sent the Americans¸ in this case¸ the 339th Regiment into uncharted territory. The furthest this advance got was some 200 miles from Archangel. The main US base was at Shenkursk¸ 20 miles¸ from the farthest outposts at Nijni Gora¸ Ust Padenga¸ and Visorka Gora. These outposts were manned by Co.A339th¸ about 160 men. The advance had been boring¸ just sporadic firefights. The Americans were a cocky group and confident despite sub-zero conditions. Imagine the shock when 1500 Reds began their attack. It was the first real battle!
Game includes 11x17 Map¸ rules¸ 280 counters. Scale is platoon level¸ 100 yds a hex¸ 6 hr turns. Heavy weapons are squad. Units include Lewis Guns¸ artillery¸ ski units¸ aircraft¸ HMG.
