Edge of Destruction: Turning Point on the Golan¸ Oct.7¸ 1973
Edge of Destruction depicts the first of two massive tank battles on the Golan (the other one in the Valley of Tears¸ happened later) and it is this one that was the turning point of the Syrian invasion in the Golan. Over 300 Syrian tanks would converge on hastily and ill-prepared IDF units defending the vital Nafah junction with not more than 50 tanks. By Oct 7th¸ the Syrians had broken through in the south¸ while those facing the IDF 7th Brigade in the north¸ had failed to (not depicted in the game). The IDF 188th Brigade was already in shambles and reinforcements would be diverted to help the 7th Brigade. Nafah was the Syrian objective and then to advance northwards behind the IDF 7th to force them to retreat and allow another Syrian 300 tanks to cross the defended anti-tank ditch in the Valley of Tears). Had the Syrians succeeded¸ all of the Golan would be theirs!
