Early customer reaction (Almenac on SW Discord): "Misguided Lover is my new gold standard on SW adventure layout. That thing's just beautiful AND easy to read. I also really like the hints/next steps system. You rarely see this kind of stuff which actually helps GMs run stuff."
The Case of the Misguided Lover is the first adventure in the City Guard Chronicles. The heroes investigate crimes and protect the citizens as fantasy cops in a pseudo-medieval city.
The product contains a six-page mini setting with basic information about The City¸ the City Guard¸ and new rules appropriate for playing as the guards. It also offers five Professional Edges¸ six new Setting Rules and suggestions for existing ones. It may be used as is or inserted into your favorite setting.
The urban adventure deals with an investigation of a double murder. It highlights the most important clues for the GM and offers next steps at the end of each scene with hyperlinks. It also includes a list of non-player characters with short descriptions and an overview/flowchart (again with hyperlinks).
Eight fully flashed-out Seasoned archetypes await you - The Captain¸ The Detective¸ The Lieutenant¸ The Lookout¸ The Oldtimer¸ The Rookie¸ The Sarge¸ and The Scientist. And if none of them is to your liking¸ you can create your own character.

Join the City Guard now! The City Welcome to the largest city on the continent¸ thoroughly corrupt from the very top to the lowest bottom. In this bustling metropolis¸ you can find anything imaginable¸ buy whatever you desire¸ and experience far more than you wish.
It is a real hive of scum and villainy¸ for lack of a better phrase. But more often than not¸ the scum wear expensive clothes and fight with words¸ deception¸ and slander. And the villainy act behind the scenes. That is not to say visitors do not have to look after their purses (or lives) while walking the street at night. But they are no more safe at a noble's manor or in a councilor's office during the day. The dangers might be different¸ but the threat is real enough.
The city lies at the crossroads in every sense of the word. Merchant caravans arrive daily through one of the gates¸ and the port is busy day and night. All major trade routes lead through here. The barrier of reality is thin in places. There are gates throughout the city that lead to other... locations. Some are similar to our world¸ and some are very different. Rumor has it a few even lead to hell.
The City Guard The city council has always been very serious about keeping order. The City Guard was established during the historical first council meeting and charged with protecting the city from external threats and keeping the peace within its walls. Many pages have been written about procedures¸ structure¸ and the number of staff. It all seems well thought-out and responsible. At least on paper.
The sad truth is¸ the council's expectations of the strength and structure of the defense and law enforcement bodies are not matched by its budget allocation. Budget cuts are a way of life¸ so the City Guard works with what it has¸ and tries not to complain too loudly. It is an open secret that everyone¸ from the lowest guard to the highest commander¸ is expendable.
"Honest guards are hard to come by... Do your best and surprise me.”
- The Guard Commander
The Case of the Misguided Lover Excerpt from Act I:The City Guard Investigation Squad walks the street when suddenly the heroes hear a loud chime inside their heads¸ and a moment later¸ a guard mage's voice announces: "You have been assigned a case. Two dead bodies found by a maid in their home. It is the house of a rich candle maker Finn Malkin in Merchant Quarter. A patrol guards the scene. Proceed to the location.” A map and directions to the house are temporarily burned into the guards' brains. It is not a pleasant experience.
The guard squad has a "simple" case to solve. A candle maker and his daughter were found murdered in their home. Their bodies mutilated. Who has done this repulsive crime? And why? An investigation awaits...
"Not only is The City full of killers¸ people get homicidal as well.”
- The Oldtimer
Future adventures in the City Guard Chronicles will offer more Archetypes and small additions to the mini setting.
