Legion of Death - A 5e Compatible Adventure

Legion of Death A 5e Compatible Adventure
Legion of Deaath was created using the techniques suggested by Brian Holland in Session Zero¸ Issue#8.
It starts with Essential Elements . These are the things that must exist. You can change these to fit your world or setting. Establishing Questions can be used in two ways. If this is intended to be used as a one-shot adventure¸ you can put the questions to your players to help embed them into the adventure and world. If you want to integrate this adventure into your existing setting¸ the Establishing Questions will help you weave this into your world¸ rather than just parachuting it in with no connection to the rest of your world or lore. There is also a chain of cause and effect . This allows you to answer questions pitched by your players when they suddenly want to talk to a sage or speak to the dead or anything else you could not plan for.
Improvisation
This adventure is set up to allow easy improvisation by the DM. Each element is discrete and easy for you to find. The information you need is not mixed in with descriptive prose and game mechanics.
Each element is structured to give you its purpose in the adventure¸ three sensory details to help you describe it to the players¸ and how to play the piece at the table. As long as the purpose is preserved¸ you can swap out everything else if you have better ideas or want to repurpose an existing element from your campaign.
What you will not find is a linear progression from start to end.
Levels and Challenge
The toughest encounter is CR5. There are weaker encounters but you can increase or decrease the numbers encountered to fine-tune the threat for your particular group of characters.
DC Tests
Where DC tests are mentioned in the text¸ I have highlighted them in Bold to make them easier to scan for in the text. You can add more tests as you want to challenge your specific characters.
Legion of Death
A party of adventurers claimed to have a treasure map of some local ruins. They set off a while ago and were never heard of again! What became of them? What was the treasure they were seeking? Is it still there?
