Iconic NPCs - Good vs. Evil
As a DM with more than 20 years of experience¸ one of my favorite things to do is design interesting NPCs to challenge the players. I love to use them as rivals¸ boss-type enemies¸ and occasionally to flesh out the entire roster of an opposing party. In Iconic NPCs - Good vs. Evil ¸ you'll find statistics for powerful champions of light and darkness. Aligned with the divine and unholy powers in your campaign¸ these NPCs can be used as allies¸ enemies¸ or rivals for heroes in tier 2 (levels 5-10)¸ 3 (levels 11-16)¸ or 4 (levels 17-20). At tiers 2 and 3¸ they can be used as boss-type NPCs supported by lesser monsters or NPCs found in the Monster Manual ¸ Volo's Guide to Monsters ¸ and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. The legendary NPCs are best utilized in a similar manner. At tiers 3 and 4¸ these NPCs may also be used to flesh out an enemy adventuring party to challenge the power of the player characters. Why provide statistics for good-aligned NPCs? Ever had a party stray from the righteous path? They'll need heroic adversaries to challenge their villanous predilections.
