Codex Umbra: Spell Descriptions for a Horror Setting
![]() |
Vivid sensory detail is vital to establishing an adventure or campaign's mood. Nowhere is this more important than in a horror setting¸ where the natural camaraderie and humor that arises during a game of Dungeons & Dragons may eclipse the tone of the campaign. Codex Umbra presents suggested cosmetic changes all the spells in the Player's Handbook. DMs can add these cosmetic changes to any and all spells¸ without modifying any mechanical properties¸ adding a touch of the horrific to the players' characters and abilities. While useful in D&D's Curse of Strahd or Descent into Avernus¸ they can be used to add a sprinkling of horror to any adventure. This is an updated and complete version of CODEX GOTHICA (which you can download for Pay-What-You-Want)
