Why play a tabaxi when you can play a panther? Why settle for riding a pony when you can be one yourself?
Awakened Animal Adventurers gives you 30 beast or plant options-all the Small and Medium ones that appear in the Basic Rules -to choose from instead of a fantasy race. Each comes with a 1st-level pregen character.
The awaken spell is a 5th-level bard or druid spell that gives an animal or plant sentience¸ a language¸ and (for plants) the ability to move. This supplements imagines that some of those awakened creatures become adventurers and puts options in the hands of players to make that happen.
The options presented here are rebalanced and presented in the same format as chapter 1 of Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse . The new options include the following:
