Artisans Odyssey Playtest
Artisans Odyssey is a roleplaying game. You play the young heroes chosen by fate to fulfill great destinies. Create new abilities on the fly and craft powerful items to aid you as you match wits and blades with the Fey¸ a mysterious and enigmatic enemy. This is a playtest of the Artisans Odyssey game system. Be among the first to journey into the fantastical lands of Aeria. In this book you will find the complete rules for creating and playing an Artisan along with rules for crafting anything you can imagine and rules for the GM to run your adventures. There is also a full bestiary of over 25 creatures to encounter. Hey guys¸ here it is. Our debut game¸ just for you. So we went into this project with the idea "what if crafting in ttrpg's didn't suck?" Well¸ here is our first attempt at that. We built the entire game from the ground up as a crafting game. You can craft Items¸ Magic Items¸ Consumable Items¸ and even abilities. And those abilities that you craft? You craft them just like you would items. Every ability your character has is either "crafted" on the fly or ahead of time in preparation for the tasks ahead. We wanted to do something a bit light and fluffy to start. Normally we are both much more interested in the crunchy¸ mechanic heavy¸ style of game but we figured that with a concept piece like this¸ we didn't want anything getting in the way of the meat of the game¸ which is the crafting. So this game is a bit fluffy¸ a bit narrative¸ and a lot awesome. We figured that¸ with the narrative feel of the rules¸ we wanted to go with a narrative feel in the setting. This led us to design the game as a European folklore/fairy tale. Every player takes on the persona of a young youth¸ setting out to meet the oracle to discover their destiny. On the way they will encounter various plights and perils you would find in classic fairy tales like witches¸ elves¸ ghosts¸ and a myriad of other creatures pulled straight from European folklore. We also tossed in some Fey Gods and a couple other surprises. To top it all off¸ and because we are not artists¸ we got some public domain art from the legendary John Bauer¸ illustrator of some of the greatest fairy tale collections from the late 19th and early 20th century. His style is extremely evocative and really helps to cement the setting and give you a feel for the environment and people you will meet throughout your adventures. It is still in playtest so for now the PDF is PWYW and the physical copy is inexpensive. There is also a web address in the book that will take you to a playtest survey where you can provide us with some feedback and help us refine and perfect the game. If you include your name in the survey and we use your ideas¸ we will even include your name in the contributors section of the final release.
