A Devils Dozen: Inns and Taverns
A collection of thirteen detailed inns¸ taverns and bars to add to any fantasy game. Each entry includes a full page describing the tavern for the GM to use as background¸ inspiration or a starting point for adventure. A Devil's Dozen: Inns and Taverns 37 1/2 Abbott's Alley - Between an antique bookshop and a cartographer is a staircase up to 37 1/2 Abbott's Alley; favored hangout for scholars of all kinds. Inn the Dungeon - An inn in a once active dungeon. Painstaking efforts have gone into replicating the feel of a meeting place for adventurers. The experience comes complete with bar brawls. Off the Wagon - This makeshift bar operates out of a wagon¸ allowing the owners to move it from place to place. The Ball and Chain - An alehouse created to give other convicts a chance at a fresh start in life. Employees are offered lodging in return for the opportunity to learn a trade. The Bent Truncheon - A popular bar frequented by the town guards. Patrons include those of less than honorable professions¸ usually involving deals with less than reputable guardsmen. The Cat's Cradle - Out of town¸ and off the beaten track¸ this inn is essentially a large¸ hidden treehouse¸ Patrons are by invitation only. The Crafty Crab - The best seafood tavern on the docks¸ its specialty is crab dishes of which there are several¸ along with other seafood meals and a complement of accompanying sauces. The Draggled Brogan - Its name comes from the many weary travelers who have stopped in on their way to or from the mines and other nearby locales. The Graveyard Shift - This bar opens late at night and closes before dawn. Popular rumor has it the bar is owned by a vampire and is a way of luring in unsuspecting victims. The Green Door - An unimpressive green door marks the entrance; it bears no name or number. It is invitation only; the location changes nightly; few know where the new location will be. The Hidden Meaning - To those in the know it is a meeting place a for the local Thieves' Guild; a place to lay low¸ sell merchandise¸ trade information¸ buy tools¸ and seek training. The Lounging Lizard - This bar depicts art featuring heroic scenes and victories with a common theme - the hero is a Lizardman¸ as is the owner of the bar. The Repast and Repose - A refined place for a wealthy traveler to enjoy a comfortable night's sleep. There are rumors staff may take additional payment to fit in a patron or lose a reservation.
