Happy Beaster 2022: A Bunny-Themed Tiny Dungeon Bestiary
That's the most foul¸ cruel¸ and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!
A Bunny-Themed Monstrous Compendium for Tiny Dungeon: Second Edition
Happy Beaster - To One & All!
What is Happy Beaster (besides a shameless holiday-themed money grab)? Why it's only the best time of year to be a Beast! Well¸ especially a bunny-themed one.
Here in Happy Beaster 2022¸ we have a tongue-in-cheek "preview” of three examples of the types of monsters we plan to include in a forthcoming full bestiary for Tiny Dungeons: Second Edition called Bestiarum Vocabulum. The three bunny-themed beasts are:
Al-Mi'raj Known to have originated on the Dragon Isles¸ these fearsome creatures should not appear so if you merely heard their description: A small hare or rabbit¸ with the stripes of a tiger and a single¸ oversized horn protruding from their head. This almost comical depiction belies the creature's strange ability to scare off nearly all creatures¸ even those with powerful wills. This is said by some to be related to the dangerous enemies of their homelands - dragons. While small in body¸ all who speak of the al-mi'raj do so in hushed tones of awe and terror¸ often in tales of slaying great beasts of scale and fire.
Jackalope Many a tall¸ terror-filled tale is told by hunters on the grasslands and open plains about the jackalope¸ often to young greenhorns their first time on the trail. Such tales often present these ingenious creatures as dreadful¸ fleeting shadows that can tear men apart by moonlight. Little do those adventurers know the truth that jackalopes are in fact real¸ and also quite fast and dangerous adversaries¸ at least when cornered. Jackalopes evolved on the plains to protect themselves against some long since extinct predators¸ but they retain the immense speed and dangerous antlers to this day while facing all new threats. Those in-the-know claim jackalope antlers can be made into powerful daggers¸ and that it's in fact jackalope - not mere rabbit - feet that bring you Luck.
Wolpertinger Known to inhabit the Dark Forest¸ these strange beasts are a mad wizard's amalgamation turned into nightmare fuel. Annoyed that all the "good” hybrid beasts had already been created (your hippogriffs¸ griffins¸ and even sea-goats and owlbears)¸ some mad sorcerer decided their "addition” to the mangled monster menagerie would fuse the head of a hare onto the body of a massive black squirrel with a stag's antlers and the wings of a falcon¸ all combined with the heart of a man-eating wolf. Little did they realize¸ in stuffing this beast with bits and pieces of various other animals¸ that they would make it crave the flesh of intelligent creatures¸ which would lead it to lay eggs for each humanoid heart it ate.
