The Ascendency is a major sporting event in the Casabelle calendar. Each year¸ massive crowds gather to watch darning drivers tackle a gruelling high-speed course in their powerful flyers. The race takes place in the city hinterlands with a course so dangerous that only the bravest participate. Death is not uncommon during this event¸ but the prize money and the glory ensure a host of willing drivers. The event is the keystone of the local government's plan to maintain morale in the city and cancelling it would be disastrous for the economy. Unfortunately¸ this is exactly what one person wants to happen.
