A ship appears at the edge of the system¸ and then another¸ and another¸ decelerating from spelljamming speed...
"Hard to port! Man the turrets!" shouts your naval captain¸ "Scramble rider squads!" The sound of hooves thunders¸ reverberating throughout the ship as the space cavalry battalion charges out of the cargo hold¸ shimmering hooves carrying the flying warhorses across the void and out toward the enemy fleet¸ banners flying from the mounted knights' polearms. In the distance¸ astral outposts of the orbital defense line turn to train their long range cannons on the enemy ships. The first mate has a furrowed brow¸ concentrating as he holds two fingers to his forehead. He looks up at the captain. "It's no use¸ they're scrambling our messages. They've got brain bugs aboard." The captain's eyes darken. "Get the signaling lights up¸" she says. "Are the mercenaries at station?" "Right here¸ captain¸" the gurgling voice of a fish-headed being says¸ walking onto the bridge. It's a pelagikaarp bounty hunter¸ flanked by a heavily armed Kyvilian plasmathrower and the glowing flame visage of a half-azer spellfire engineer. "Ready to engage the enemy¸ captain." The captain turns toward the fore windows of the bridge¸ where colorful blasts are beginning to erupt among the approaching fleet. "It's time to defend our world. Helm¸ all ahead full".
