NOTORIOUS MONSTERS
Classic monstrous creatures rivisited as unique horror nemesis
" Beware that¸ when fighting monsters¸
you yourself do not become a monster.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
by Igor Comunale
Van Ricthen's Guide to Ravenloft presents in the monster section some tips to easily transform well-known creatures from the Monster Manual and other sources into unique and memorable monsters.
This guide takes the concept further by presenting several classic Dungeons and Dragons creatures revisited to become unique horror nemesis.
Each monster is presented with its own personal story and in many cases the statistics blocks have been altered to reflect their unique genesis and their special abilities.
This guide contains 23 revised monsters¸ each with its own unique name (the original creature from which they are drawn is indicated under this name). These are monsters with a deep and unique origin that often differs from that indicated in the Monster Manual for the basic creature of reference.
These creatures are particularly suitable for use in the Ravenloft setting¸ but are easily adaptable in any other setting with minimal adaptation work.
