Curse of Strahd Session Zero Notes - Player Handout
Curse of Strahd is an incredible campaign. But it works somewhat differently to other pre-written modules¸ in taste¸ story¸ and mechanics. It's important that your players understand the dark themes of Barovia and are happy with being a part of sometimes difficult stories. This is where a good session zero can really help.
I've put together an easy digest¸ one page handout to give to your players who are looking to join a Curse of Strahd campaign. Information includes how the land of Barovia acts differently from other domains¸ the differences of a horror setting¸ and what to expect from one of the top rated D&D prewritten adventures.
Some other tips for DMs before you start CoS:
Encourage your players to speak to you¸ the DM¸ if they have any concerns or potential triggers from stories within the campaign. Is there anything they definitely DON'T want to be a part of? Read guides from Dragna Carter and MandyMod to help flesh out your characters and stories. Check out the YouTube video guides online about key locations¸ characters and more from the likes of the incredible Lunch Break Heroes and No Fun Allowed. (I highly recommend No Fun Allowed and his guide on Dinner with Strahd).
Please do link any other resourced you have found useful in the discussion section as I am currently part way through DMing CoS myself¸ so it would be amazing to share your insights too.
Thanks so much for downloading. Any proceeds go towards my own D&D and roleplay games with my pals!
