Brazil¸ 1995. Defensores de Tóquio (Defenders of Tokyo)¸ a satirical RPG about the Japanese superheroes that were all the rage among Brazilian kids at the time - especially tokusatsu franchises¸ but also anime¸ manga¸ and game series - is first published. The years pass¸ and we see the publication of AD&T¸ 3D&T¸ 4D&T and¸ most recently¸ 3D&T Alpha. Now more than 25 years old¸ the system evolved and became one of the most played games in Brazil¸ introducing many of us to the world of tabletop roleplaying games.
2021. The RPG LATAM JAM invites designers to create content for games by Latin-American authors. Many of those already in itch.io are OSR games. I remember then that 3D&T was one of the first RPGs I played and that it heavily influenced me and think that¸ though I really like OSR games¸ I have not had the experience of playing those games when I was a kid. And I think that maybe time enough has passed for us to have our very own old school revival¸ rescuing some old Brazilian games that shaped us as roleplayers. This is the origin story of Defenders of Old Tokyo¸ or OD&T¸ first published only in English. However¸ since many people enjoyed the game¸ and since the very talented Dave Araújo offered himself to illustrate a Brazilian Portuguese edition¸ it had to become true¸ and thus Defenders of Old Tokyo (Translated and Revised) came to life!
