Resembling a bloated¸ slightly flattened¸ mottled red ball surrounded by flailing tentacles¸ Bone Bugs get their names both from the skull-like patterns on their carapaces as well as by their habit of feasting on the bones of the dead. Scavengers by nature¸ they are a threat to most graveyards as they burrow into the soft soil of freshly dug graves and use their powerful digestive enzymes to disolve what flesh clings to a corpse before feasting on the skeletal remains through a small mouth on their underbellies. They are not above attacking fresh prey¸ though¸ and many an unwary adventurer has been brought down by these monstrosities. Bone Bugs universally use their multiple tentacles to borrow and manipulate a skull from one of their meals¸ both as a means of offense as well as to inject a powerful paralytic venom into living prey¸ and their tough outer carapace houses a large¸ fleshy internal enzyme sac which is highly prized by alchemists.
Thought to be a fleshwarped creation of the Thuul Keepers and used to dispose of their failed experiments¸ Bone Bugs can be commonly found both within and in the lands directly adjacent to the region known as the Labyrinth where the Thuul make their homes.
