Chaoses Limb Players Guide
I first started working on Chaoses Limb because I wanted a ruleset to use for running old modules. There were plenty of retro clones out there¸ but I have a copy of Holmes basic and was familiar with the rules so I decided to start there. I already knew those rules were hard for new players to understand¸ but I figured the ruleset was small enough that it would be easy to edit¸ rewrite and clarify. I rearranged the rules to make things easier to find. I moved all the rules we typically ignored during play into an "Optional Rules" section. I further streamlined where I could and tried to eliminate most of the inconsistencies. Finally¸ I ended up adding a few of my own home rules or stealing rules I liked from other rulesets. Before I knew it¸ I had my own retro-clone on my hands. And here it is. Hope you enjoy it. First Add On: a 1-sheet summarizing character generation instructions. This is something that you can hand out at the table at your first session. Particularly handy if you have a rotating cast of players that show up for one shots. Second Add On: I have disassembled and reorganized the rules so that the most important rules for each race/class are on their own double sided sheet. These are useful as handouts at the table once a player has picked their race/class and includes a few additional optional rules as well as a 'standard kit' for equipment for each race/class.
