Fiend Wake Basic Rulebook 0th Edition
Fiend Wake is an RPG set in the apocalyptic aftermath of a demon war where political tensions are high but nobody wants to admit it. It uses an original dice mechanic called the "Mithril Soup Engine" that's designed for fast character creation and strategic combat. When you roll a die¸ if it's less than or equal to the core stat's number¸ you get to roll an additional die and add it to the result -- this is called "stacking" dice. The second die you roll can repeat the process if it rolls inside the next lowest odd number of the stat. Repeating until only a roll of 1 will get you there. Skills limit the number of times you're likely to stack. Combat eschews the hex map for abstract spacial "locations" which have advantages and disadvantages when occupied. Characters battle to control the helpful locations and attempt to force enemies into the detrimental ones. Strategy revolves around managing "Tactical Points" which are needed to take precedence in turn order¸ to move about the battlefield's locations¸ and take additional actions that improve your situation.
