Wizards of Eberron: Five Arcane Traditions
Eberron is a world built on magic¸ but even in a world full of artificers and magewrights¸ wizards still reign supreme in their mastery of arcane forces. Here¸ we examine five unique arcane traditions that are deeply tied into the setting and lore of Eberron. Elemental Binder Primarily hailing from the secretive nation of Zilargo-and the even more reclusive realms of the Sulatar Drow-Elemental Binders harness the powers that gave rise to Eberron's airships and lightning rail. These are no artificers¸ though: they bind elementals in order to strengthen their own spellcasting¸ and some among them even graft elementals into themselves for greater power¸ becoming something more than a mere mortal. Dust Savant The prehistory of Eberron began with the Age of Demons. For thousands of years¸ the world was ruled by the rakshasas and their fiendish Overlords. The Overlords were eventually defeated and imprisoned¸ but their servants-the Lords of Dust-still hoard their ancient secrets. The Dust Savants are arcane scholars who seek out this lost arcane knowledge. Some few hope to use this magic to fight against the fiends¸ but many have darker ambitions... Knight Arcane Of all the nations of Khorvaire¸ Aundair places the greatest emphasis on arcane magic. Wizards in Aundair are treated with respect as scholars¸ leaders¸ and war heroes. Aundair's famous Knights Arcane are known for riding to battle on their phantom steeds. With their mastery of blade and battle magic¸ they are one of the most feared fighting forces in the Five Nations. Sharn Skymage The city of Sharn is famous for its impossibly-tall towers¸ skycoaches¸ and an entire floating city district. These are all possible due to the fact that Sharn lies in a manifest zone to the plane of Syrania¸ the Azure Sky. Sharn Skymages have studied the magical properties of this extraplanar connection and¸ by tapping into it¸ have greatly enhanced their own powers of magical flight. Silver Pyromancer The Church of the Silver Flame focuses on a powerful symbol-the silver fire that many believe is responsible for binding the fiendish Overlords to their eternal prison. The Church is known for its paladins and priests who harness this divine flame in an effort to cleanse the world of evil¸ but there are also a small number of wizards-Sivler Pyromancers-who have managed to tap into this holy power to enhance their own arcane fire magics.
