The Dwarven Smiths Tome
The leading citizen of the village of Jarnborg is master weaponsmith Dane Bearclaw¸ who has set down the store of his expertise in a book. He wants to set down his vast knowledge for posterity¸ but while he lives¸ he also wants to keep his trade secrets his own. Visiting the village gives your players the chance to score some cool weapons¸ meet some colorful NPCs such as you have come to expect from Places by the Way - and to solve a mystery when the dwarven smith's tome goes missing! As if that wasn't bother enough¸ orc bandits are making the road between the village and the nearby mine that supplies it with iron ore too hot to travel. The Dwarven Smith's Tome is published under the Open Game License. It does not specify a particular campaign setting¸ and it allows you to integrate it into your own campaign world by filling in various details. You can use it as a stand-alone module¸ or continue the adventure with the forthcoming Places by the Way #6¸ The Demon's Veins ¸ in which your party will have the opportunity to save a reckless band of dwarves from the evil that their mining activity has unleased. Places by the Way is a series of short modules created by veteran RPG writer and developer Douglas Sun for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Think of them as glittering mosaic tiles that you can drop into a campaign to provide your player characters with diverting side quests and memorable interludes while they follow the overall story arc. After all¸ a great campaign world is one in which memorable experiences can be had even in places found by the way.
