100 Rumours to Hear in or about the Planes
This is a collection of rumours to do with the various planes common in many versions and derivatives of the World's First Role Playing Game. The planes mentioned are based around the planar model first seen in that game¸ and in variants in both that game and derivatives¸ so rumours may need tweaking to match up with a setting's particular cosmology. The rumours may be heard by characters who are travelling the planes themselves¸ or heard from those knowledgeable about them such as sages and the well-travelled - or those claiming to be such. Whether or not any rumour is true¸ or accurate - the teller may believe it to be true and accurate - is up to the GameMaster. They could be used as a source of adventure hooks¸ misinformation or general background. This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier. Here are some sample results: A planar trader is selling a number of silver swords that he claims used to belong to the knights of the silver sea. Such weapons are powerful and only given to the most accomplished of the knights¸ so either this is a fraud or someone rather annoyed will come looking for the silver swords. It probably won't be healthy to possess one at that point. A power struggle seems to be underway in Hades¸ between the most powerful daemons and some of the deities that reside on the plane. Quite what the sides are is hard to tell¸ as some of the daemons also seem to be fighting each other. A river has been discovered flowing through several planes¸ and not just the lower ones. Similar in some ways to the Styx¸ which flows through many areas¸ this river appears to be new¸ with new tributaries forming all the time. This river does not appear to be as dangerous as many of those already known - or¸ perhaps¸ it should be said it does not appear to be as dangerous yet. A sapling of a tree has been discovered growing in the upper planes. It doesn't look like much¸ and trees are hardly uncommon after all¸ but there have been claims that the tree is a seedling of Yggdrasil. A wizard is offering a big reward to anyone who can bring her some bottled water from the River Styx with all of its properties intact. Getting the water is comparatively easy - if bottling water from a river that erases memories and connects the Lower Planes can be said to be easy - but the water's properties do not last long out of the river¸ if at all. So¸ getting the water with all the effects it normally has is the hard part. One page is the front cover¸ one the front matter and one is ads.
