Dealing with Dice
Dealing with Dice is a two page set of simple rules for using dice (both polyhedral and basic six-sided) to mimic the behavior of drawing playing cards. It should be handy for substituting die rolls in any game which usually requires a standard deck of cards (52 cards¸ 4 suits) or any game that uses Matriarch Deck rules. Guide Dice avoid contradiction: instead of constantly re-rolling results which are impossible (e.g. two players both "drawing" a Queen of Hearts from the same deck on the same turn)¸ some simple mechanics are introduced to drastically reduce and¸ in many cases¸ eliminate the need for re-rolls without significantly changing the overall odds. Support for both Matriarch Decks and standard "Poker" decks: My Matriarch Decks system is based on 1-in-12 odds¸ so simple rules for using d12's and "d66" (a "bihex" roll of two six-siders) are presented. Poker decks (which have 13 cards per suit) are modeled with a d20¸ a d66¸ and some extra help from the Guide Dice. These rules follow card statistics as closely as possible while working around the limitation that 13 is a large prime number which does not divide cleanly into dice face counts.
