RoboNoir: Crime in Cog City
Welcome to Cog City Down an dingy¸ rust-stained street you can see a group of investigators looking around the crime scene of a fallen bot¸ where dectectives are setting up caution holos. They are the best Cog City has to offer: they are members of the Holming Beacon Detective Agency. Do you have what it takes to join their ranks?
From the Office of Holming Beacon Detective Agency You are robots¸ solving crimes and keeping Cog City safe! You all work for Holming Beacon Detective Agency¸ run by the seasoned detective Shellblock Holming. His directive is to hand out cases to his one-to-six-detective crews.
During the game¸ players are referred to as detectives ¸ and the game master is referred to as the Boss . The Boss plays the role of the various nonplayer characters that the detectives will come into contact with¸ as well as creating cases the detectives are working to solve.
What is the DayLITE System? The DayLITE system is built to be narratively open with some basic rules.
We decided to go with a d12 because the d12 just doesn't get enough love. It was easy from there to build in the bonuses and multiples of three. I pulled a lot of inspiration from City of Mist¸ Quest¸ and PBTA all of which are amazing games by really leaving what happens around the die roll and when to use the die roll up to the Boss in RoboNoir in this case.
So let us say you are trying to tail someone¸ the Boss might ask you to roll an Instinct check¸ you would add your bot's bonus and see if you had anything that might come into play when doing on a tail based on the bot you pick. That I really drew on from City of Mist with their Logos and Mythos tags: I wanted to make a very cinematic and easy to pick up system that would allow for maximum fluidity between Boss and detective.
