Career: Salvor
The Colonel and the salvor's assistant talked animatedly as they walked through the breaker's yard¸ Berlin and I close behind. Turned out they had both served in the Marines. I kept my mind focused on the planning how to remove enough phase-point discriminators to finish fixing the drives without destroying them. I heard Berlin give a gasp. The Colonel and the salvor must've heard him too¸ because they slowed their pace¸ looking back at him quizzically. Berlin grabbed my arm with one hand and pointed excitedly with the other at a half-hidden hulk in the near distance. "Bel! That one! Is that...?" Sitting in the yard was the Ginger Maru ! The old freighter was almost a legend; stories of her and her eccentric crew - and the valuables the hid on board - having reached even this far out. The salvor's assistant looked on matter-of-factly. "Got her in just a couple weeks ago. Didn't think she was the real Ginger ¸ but I guess judgin' by you boys' reaction..." The Colonel was already striding toward the ship¸ Berlin hot on his heels. Looked like we suddenly had a new salvage mission to perform. Astrotime disasters and huge space battles create wrecked and damaged vehicles. Some of the resulting debris fields can be quite large; space is more than big enough to render some of this stellar flotsam forever lost. But sometimes¸ the wreckage occurs close enough to inhabited space that cleaning it up is not only possible and necessary¸ but profitable. The hardy individuals who handle this duty are the Salvors. This supplement for 2D6 RPGs such as Cepheus Engine and the Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game (OSFRPG) allows Referees and Players the option of adding these individuals to their game universes. Included are character generation tables¸ an overview of a salvage operation¸ and a new piece of equipment designed to aid the effort.
